I heard this song on the radio and realized how FAT the verses are. The grooves during these sections are so deep, I just had to transcribe it. Something that is this simple and grooves this hard should be noted, especially by fairly excitable musicians like myself: less notes is best.
I think what makes this so striking is how little everyone is doing and how it just locks into the grid. About the simplest drum groove and bass part you can have with some vocals and Leslie'd keyboards on top (go to 0:11 in the video to hear the part I'm talking about).
I don't have much to say about this transcription besides that you should listen to this with some headphones on or some nice speakers to hear what I'm talking about. The rhythm section is just killing it, as per usual with Three Dog Night.
